Thoughts on starting a new Kung Fu School

If you’re reading this, I hope it’s because you’re thinking of coming to Paringdon Sports Centre on the 8th of January to sample a new Kung Fu school in Harlow. Or you’re reading back on the blogs because you’re thinking of trying a new Kung Fu school in Harlow that you’ve just found out about!

I’ve been studying and and teaching Wing Chun Kung Fu under two different schools for 28 years now. From my first ever lesson (yes I can still remember it) I knew that I wanted to learn Wing Chun to the highest standard. Shortly afterwards I realised I wanted to share what I was learning. Logically that gave me only one choice at some point in the future. Start my own school.

I’m typing this as we recover from Christmas and try to pull all the strands together for Monday the 8th to make sure we have a venue, insurance and (hardest of all) some students!

Most of it is ‘easy’ as I’ve run my own business previously, have a career in IT and plenty of experience in teaching, and, according to my students, making what I teach interesting! What I don’t have is experience of persuading people to come to the classes in the first place.

I’ve had to go back on to Facebook to see how social media works in terms of martial arts schools. That was an eye opener I can tell you! And I’m not even sure if people *use* Facebook these days.

Maybe you’ve looked at what is displayed on social media while looking for the ‘right’ martial art? If so, I’d suggest you don’t get discouraged. Nothing I’ve seen on there looks like the real world :)

Come down to Paringdon Sports Club on any Monday evening at 7pm and see what Wing Chun Kung Fu can really be about. The first lesson is absolutely free to give you a taste of who we are and what we do.

What have you got to lose?
